Open Gate System started to operate at Batumi International Airport
On June 22, 2012 for the first time in Georgia and South Caucasus, so called “Open Gate System” was activated at Batumi International Airport.
Open Gate system is created for the comfort and free movement of passengers entering the closed area of airport terminal.
After passing the passport control and safety checking, passenger crosses the border and gets into the Open Gate zone, where he/she has complete freedom to move. Passengers can enter Duty Free stores, café-bars without hurrying and taking advantage of the infrastructure designed for them. Passengers will not pass additional checking through the x-ray machines anymore and will proceed for the boarding directly.
Concerning the Open Gate System presentation, TAV Georgia’s General Manager Mete Erkal stated:
“We are glad that Batumi International Airport joined the number of European airports, where Open Gate System is operating. Starting from today, passengers of Batumi International Airport can freely move through, after passport control (Duty Free zone) without additional security check. Also, “Extension of arrival hall“ project will give more space to arriving passengers to Batumi. More passengers will be served easily, with renovated arrival area.”
Along the transition to the new system in Batumi International Airport, the arrival hall has been expanded to 60 square meters.
To celebrate the extension of arrival hall and activation of Open Gate System, a special event was held in Batumi International Airport. TAV Georgia’s General Manager Mete Erkal and companies management, welcomed on the event the Minister of Finance and Economy of autonomous republic of Adjara – Vaja Bolkvadze, The head of department of tourism and resorts of Adjara Davit Kikava, Mayor of Batumi Robert Chkhaidze, The director or United Airports of Georgia Keti Aleksidze and other honorable guests.
After the official presentation of Open Gate System and the cocktail, the General Manager of TAV Georgia cut the red ribbon together with the guests.
